Today's #RecipeOfTheDay is our all time favourite Potato Pulao Or Alu Ki Tahari as we love to call it. It can be made instantly with just basic ingredients that are easily available in every household.
Here's how to make it --
Ingredients -
2-3 Potatoes_cut into medium sized chunks | 1 Cup Tomatoes(optional) | 1 Cup Green Peas | 1 Tbsp Ginger-Garlic Paste | 1/2 Tsp Red Chili Flakes | 1/2 Tsp crushed Green chili | 1/2 Tsp Garam Masala | Salt To Taste | 1 Tsp Cumin | 1 Tsp Kasuri methi | 1/2 lemon juice and zest(lemon peal) | 1 Onion_thinly sliced | 4 Cups Rice | 1 Cup Chopped Cilantro / Soya Leaves Cooking | Oil For Cooking
Instructions -
1. Heat oil in a pot. Add cumin and kasuri methi. Leave it for 5 mins.
2. Add chopped onions and mix well, cook till translucent. Add ginger- garlic paste, turmeric, salt to taste.. Cook till the uncooked aroma of ginger-garlic goes away.
3. Add potatoes, stir well and cook till 50% tender.
4. Add green peas, tomatoes, green chili paste, red chili flakes, garam masala powder, lemon juice and grated lemon peal(Zest) Mix well.
5. Let it simmer till tomatoes are well cooked and potatoes are 80% cooked. Add 1/2 Cup so that nothing is burnt.
6. Add rice, chopped cilantro(1/2 Cup) and enough water to get it cooked, mix well so that everything is well combined.
7. Make the flame medium high. Bring to boil. Do a taste check for salt.
8. Once the water starts reducing, cover with lid and let it cook till well done.
Serve hot with raita/pickle, some fresh salad and dollop of butter.
