Another famous Indian state is Punjab, being well known for its unique and awesome culture, wonderful cuisine be it Vegetarian Or Non Vegetarian.. It is rich, full of flavors and a mere reflection of the hearty Punjabi Culture. Amritsari fish, tandoori chicken, sarson ka saag, makke ki roti etc etc are few of the dishes which i am familiar with. Oh yes.. how can i forget the yummiest and lip smacking Chole Bature

My all time favorite is Daal Makhani. It is made with basic ingredients of black gram lentil and red kidney beans. The base of this lentil is loads of butter and onion-tomato puree. To finish the dish, fresh cream is used. You can also use yogurt but then thats completely optional..

Here is my recipe which i have been using since long.. Super delicious and ofcourse easy to make, Indeed ful of aroma !!!

Ingredients - 1 Cup Black Lentil(Urad Daal) | 1 Cup Red Kidney Beans | 1 Tsp Kasuri Methi | 1 Cup Onion Puree | 2 Cup Tomato Puree | Grated Ginger - 1 Tsp + Additional | 2 Cups of Fresh/Cooking Cream | Loads of Butter for cooking | 1 Tsp Kasuri Methi | pinch of garam masala | red chili powder ||| For Garnish - chopped coriander leaves + Slitted green chilies

Instructions - Clean and wash the lentil and beans. Soak in water for about 8 Hrs or till both lentil and beans are double in volume.

Add soaked beans and lentils in a pressure cooker along with ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, 1/2 Tsp oil, salt and 2 Cup water. Give a quick stir and Close the lid. Pressure cook till 3 whistles on medium high flame, lower the flame on complete low and cook for another 10 mins. Once done, close the flame and let the cooker rest to remove the steam naturally. This will eventually make the lentils and beans more tender and completely cooked.

Note - Make sure you add enough water else everything will burn.

Open the lid and leave the cooker as it is so that remaining steam evaporates. Give it a random stir and using a masher, roughly mash the Lentil and Beans.

Now place a wok on the stove and make it hot. Add butter, cumin seeds, kasuri methi. Give a quick stir and let it cook till it starts giving a soothing aroma.Add onion and tomato puree and saute till the butter separates out. Pour in the prepared lentils and beans. Cook till it becomes thick and bubbles up.

Season with salt, drizzle lemon juice, garnish with chopped coriander leaves, some more crushed fenugreek leaves(Kasuri Methi)

Add 1 Cup of cream. mix well and add a dollop of butter and let it melt.

Spoon out the prepared lentil and beans in a nice serving dish. Drizzle some more cream and serve hot.
